I personally see grid system in the films as in the theme "Memory", that films capture moments that's deep inside your memories.
I scanned the negative films in vertical and horizontal lines, slash lines or in any kinds of orders to create a grid.
Positive-negative film is instant photographic film that generates both a positive print and negative from a single exposure on a single medium.
Negative film is the name for a photographic film that will give images which have their colors inverted, after development.
A Positive (photography) is a film or paper record of a scene that represents the color and luminance of objects in that scene with the same colors and luminances (as near as the medium will allow). It is opposite to a negative where colors and luminances are reversed: this is due to the chemical or electric process involved in recording the scene. Positives can be turned into negatives by appropriate chemical or electronic processes.
So negative films gave me inspirations on the installation art, and films represent memory, the moments that are memorized on the films. so my team mates and I started to create a 3 dimensional crossed-film box.
We created an open cube with chopsticks first, we connected the chopsticks with tapes.
Then connected the films cross to each other in side the cube randomly, so the three-dimensional grid will appear.
Here's a process video how we created the open cube.
When it's all done, we took the cube to the photo studio and got some awesome photographs, we captured the shadow and the films itself which intersected to each other and created a grid itself.
Here are the results of the grid system created by the negative films and its shadow, enjoy.
These photographs gave me lots of inspiration on the installation art that I'm going to create, I had an idea that's gonna be called "Memory" which is our installation's theme and name.
