“It started as a barely discernible murmur in the early morning with an occasional yelled retort and the slamming of a door.”

•This is the Article’s INTRO, the beginning of the story, to start the entire storyline, and the story starts telling from here.
•This sentence describes the changing of the beginning situation very well by using a contrast in the sentence, such as “barely discernible murmur” and “an occasional yelled retort and the slamming of a door.”


“By mid afternoon, the murmuring at Nicholson place had become an intermittent rumble that rose to an occasional crescendo accented with assorted bangs and crashes.”
•The writer describes the situation over at the Nicholson’s very well in this sentence, by using rose’s appearance to describe the “bangs, crashes and intermittent rumble” came out from the Nicholson’s.
•This is the content of the story and also a turning point to lead the story to the climax.


“He stood up off the stoop and opened the screen door, but then ducked suddenly as an guitar sailed over his head. It arced in a grand trajectory and landed on the other side of the walk.”
•This sentence is the content of the story and also another turning point to Mrs. Nicholson’s crazy reaction.
•The writer used very proper words to describe Mrs. Nicholson’s action and how the guitar had been thrown, such as “as an guitar SAILED over his head” “It ARCED in a GRAND TRAJECTORY.”


“She achieved a higher arc with the suitcase than she did earlier with the guitar. On the third bounce it exploded open, disgorging its contents onto the lawn.”
•This sentence is a turning point in the article to the climax, that Mrs. Nicholson starts causing the biggest rumble in the story.
•The writer used a very good and proper verb to describe what happened to the suitcase – “DISGORGING its contents onto the lawn.”
•The phrase “higher arc” leads the story to a higher climax.


“The Nicholson boys were sitting on the stoop with jars of lightning bugs. ‘Where was mama going?’ the younger one asked his brother. ‘She was going to widow Keene’s drive-in.’ ‘widow Keene don’t have no drive-in.’ ‘She does now.’ ”
•This is the end of the story as an outro in the entire article, it is a very good and humorous ending in the entire story by using the Nicholson boys’ conversation.
•This ending reflects the title of the article to finally make the readers understand the title and the entire story and joke.

Film Woman in Black critiques

We have watched a thrilling movie together in class called Woman in Black, The Woman in Black is a 2012 British–Canadian–Swedish horror film directed by James Watkins and written by Jane Goldman, and is based on Susan Hill's novel of the same name. It was produced by Hammer Film Productions.

Woman in Black film has lots of scenes that I really like, for example: 

The very beginning of the film when 3 girls committed a suicide together and jumped out of the window at the same time gives the film a very good begin, this scene creates lots of the mystery at the beginning it makes audience curious about why, and gives audience interests to continue watching the film.

This scene in the movie in cinematography it's called CA Cutaway shot, a shot of something else other than the main subjects, this is a very old doll that's not a character in the movie, but this shot in the film is a very important shot of the main character's surroundings, a very old doll relates to the story elements that's about the Woman in Black making them kill themselves in darkness, a very old doll changes the innocent childhood into the darkness which suites the story and theme very well.

This scene when the main character's standing in front of the window looking outside's view, then a shadow appears behind the main character, gives the story more mysterious atmosphere.

and this scene when there was the main character's reflection on the mirror and a hand shape track appears on the glass; using reflection in the cinematography plus an OSS Over-Shoulder-Shot is a very good frame in the film.

The entire film is a horror film that has very good techniques on the cinematography, the angles, emotions of the characters and the background movie soundtrack reflects the theme of the movie very well, I'd say the theme of the movie is more into Goths, and mystery. Although the story line is a very negative story about this Woman in Balck's hatred, but in the end of the film,  

There's a scene of the main character's wife, kid and him getting back together in a different world with no one around, and they finally found their peace and happiness, this ending gives the entire film a big contrast which is very good inspiration for the audience to understand that hatred would never bring you into peace, but love will.

Difference Between Scholarly Journals and Popular Journals

Scholarly journals are signed by the author and it's written by an expert or scholar, it also provides the author's credentials and affiliations, and it may have multiple authors.
Popular journals are mostly unsigned and written by journalist, staff or free-lance writer.

CHARACTERISTICS
Scholarly journals are source cited such as bibliography and reference list, and it involved endnotes and footnotes, it also may have an abstract.
Popular Journals probably don't contain bibliography and they are written for a broad audience.

EDITORIAL OVERSIGHT
Scholarly journals are controlled by peer review or referee process.
Popular journals are reviewed or assigned by editors and publications may do fact checking, spell checking and grammar checking.

APPEARANCE FREQUENCY
Scholarly journals are utilitarian appearance, few photographs and they are published quarterly or monthly.
Popular journals contain many advertisements and journals maybe in the title, but the publication isn't scholarly, they are published monthly, weekly or daily.

CONTENT
Scholarly journals focus on narrow subjects, detailed analysis, longer articles and they are usually about research, there are also charts graphs or tables.
Popular journals are articles of general interests or current news, they are short articles(less than 5 pages) lots of photographs and flossy paper and eye-catching graphics and layout.

PUBLISHER
Scholarly journals are published by professional association or academic press, and many journals use successive pagination throughout the year. Scholarly publications are available from university library, lab or office.
Popular journals are published by media conglomerate or commercial publisher. Popular publications are available from newsstand or home subscription

TRADE JOURNALS
Trade journals are published by professional or trade associations, they have a specific limited audience and contain advertisements related to the profession; also provide a forum job advertisements, they use jargons of the industry, and contain photographs of trade/ industrial setting.

COMMENTARY
Commentary is intellectual subjects matter, it comments on current issues, they are about cultural or political subjects, it may have a political leaning left or right. It is also literary, artistic, dramatic critism.
